It goes without saying that not all personal trainers are created equal. Like in all lines of work there are people who are great at what they do and there are some who … require much needed improvement. When I speak of personal trainers, I am talking about the general idea of a personal trainer who is good at what they do. Below, I listed the 4 main reasons I believe it’s a good idea to hire a personal trainer to help you reach your fitness goals.
- Expertise
The human body is a complex machine, we for some reason dont treat it as such. Certified personal trainers have proven to an accredited governing body that they possess a certain level of understanding of the human body and how it works. They understand how to manipulate reps, sets and tempo to get the proper outcome. When you need to make changes to your car you would normally take it to a mechanic. When it comes to changing your body composition why not go to an expert like a personal trainer?
- Accountability
When starting out or even as an advanced lifter everyone will struggle with consistency and motivation. We all have the days where we don’t feel like going to the gym or moving. I have multiple. When we have a personal trainer and set a time workout appointment with them we are more likely to fight the laziness and excuses. We don’t want to lose our spot and oftentimes we paid in advance so we want to get the most for our money. Getting a personal trainer not only holds us accountable to our fitness goals and we also want to get our money’s worth.
- Safety
We all know a person who claims they don’t do a certain exercise because it hurts their back, knees, elbows , you name it. When I ask these people how they perform the movement, more often than not they are doing it wrong. They are leveraging the proper body mechanics in order to perform these movements safely. Personal Trainers will and should help you find the proper and safe way to perform the movement for your body.
- Push you beyond your limits safely
With a personal trainer they are in a good position to challenge you safely at the gym. I have worked out with many people that could add 5 or 10 pounds. A personal can assess rep speed and ease and could suggest that you can work a bit harder. The key word to this last point is safely. I have also witnessed a kid slap 5 or 10 pounds on a bar that was already too heavy. A trainer is well positioned to push and challenge you without putting your safety at risk.
I also understand that hiring a personal trainer is a luxury that not all of us can afford. For those of you who are in a position to hire a personal trainer then I think you should. Even the highest level athletes and greatest bodybuilders have personal trainers or coaches . It’s a great way to either jump start your fitness journey or help achieve new heights.
